We read about Green Demolitions and became excited as our dream kitchen with upscale stainless steel appliances were now in our budget. We had many phone conversations with Mare about the appliances, styles, sizes and options. We made a 'wish list' and sent it to Mare. When most of the appliances arrived, delivery was scheduled and our Viking suite was here. There's one catch, we still had the old kitchen! So we put them in the garage covered them up like a new baby and off we were to plan our new dream kitchen. We love our new kitchen and appliances!

Contemporary Maple Cabinets with Stainless/Black High End Appliances/Italian iridescent glass wall and back splash.
I found my complete kitchen with upscale appliances in Honesdale. It had just been unloaded off a truck, not cleaned, set up, or anything. I had no idea at the time what I was going to do with this huge kitchen. I designed it, and worked with the contractors hands on each day! I was able to go from 1960's dark to this! My Lifestyle Area, it is more than a kitchen!
Our renovation began two weeks before Christmas, and finished the end of February 2008. No kitchen through the Holidays was hard, but so worth it!

Description of Kitchen: Solid, Traditional Kitchen
I needed two solid traditional style kitchens for a commercial construction project for a three family home in the New Milford area.
I went to the Green Demolitions store in Bethel, New York on a Saturday, found just what I was looking for, and purchased it the same day. It was actually one big kitchen that I was able to convert to two kitchens because of the layout Green Demolitions provided.
After working with the helpful staff in Bethel, I had put together a complete package deal for my project: cabinets, sinks, AND Viking appliances. Except for the custom panels I built for the refrigerator, everything came from Green Demolitions.
I had originally estimated this job to cost me around $27,000. At Green Demolitions I spent $7000. I saved $20,000 and I’m really happy about that.

Kitchen
For 9 years we thought about re-doing our kitchen. My wife kept pushing to
renovate. I told her to make measurements so that we could accurately
estimate the work to do. Luckily when we stopped by Green Demo in Bethel she
had the drawing of what she wanted with the measurements in hand. Literally
the moment we walked in the door we saw a kitchen that could work. We bought
it the next day. Two weeks later picked it up in a truck. After sitting in
our office for a month we had done enough work to start putting it in. We
needed a few more lower cabs but Ikea had something that matched close
enough. Tonight we cooked our first meal. No one can believe it cost 1500
bucks....with the marble, dishwasher, sink, cabs, Viking cooktop, etc etc.

The Delaware & Hudson Canal Company in 1850 deepened the canal, enlarged the more than 100 locks to allow for larger boats, and built large houses with board-and-batten siding, along the canal. They were used by the lock tender and his family, and as a stopping off place for canal boats traveling between Honesdale, Pennsylvania and Rondout, New York. The house at White Mills, Pennsylvania at Lock Number 33 was condemned in early 2007, purchased by me and restored.
The original kitchen, attached on the south end of the building, was restored to its original condition. New electrical wiring, plumbing and flooring were installed. A cherry wood kitchen was purchased from Green Demolitions consisting of many cabinets, a number of which opened in front and back. In addition to the kitchen cabinets, this purchase included a sink and dishwasher. (The dishwasher was the only item not used.) A stove and refrigerator and an overhead light fixture were then purchased from Green Demolitions. The enclosed photographs show all of the items purchased from Green Demolitions except one large cabinet, which was used upstairs over the washer/dryer connections. (A new counter top had to be made using some of the original counter top.) Other than the stools and the overhead light/fan, all of the items in the photographs came from Green Demolitions.
Green Kitchen Renovation Story
The first time I saw the D & H Canal Lock House in White Mills, Pennsylvania in July 2007 the "Keep Out — Condemned" sign had just been nailed to the door. The canal company built this 1850 house for the tender of Lock 33, the first post office in White Mills and the site of the telegraph office. In deplorable shape, some fool-hardy soul was needed to save this important piece of our heritage. One year later—with the help of friends, a canal exhibit moved from the Chamber of Commerce and Green Demolitions—the building was restored to house a canal museum and an apartment with a magnificent kitchen.
An open house for 200 people was held on September 13, 2008. Everyone admired the Green Demolitions kitchen.

We decided to redo the kitchen, the prices ranged from $25,000 to $82,000.00 the prices were more than we wished to pay. A friend told us about Green
Demolitions, we went in picked out the cabinets and did my
entire kitchen for $16,000.00. We did the majority of labor
ourselves, but with Green Demolitions we saved a ton of money. With the
purchase of the cabinets we also received butcher block tops for
the island as well as an excellent dishwasher. Our kitchen is
the new hang out we love it and could not have done it without
Green Demolitions!

Description of Kitchen: Beautiful
White Kitchen with Corian Counters & Island
This kitchen is installed in an unusual 20 x 40’ kitchen/office area in a new pole building that also includes a 40 x 40’ workshop and 40 x 60’ garage. The space is geothermally heated with in-floor radiant heat in acid-stained concrete. The dark red “Tropical Nut” painted walls and 12 foot ceiling highlight the all-white kitchen with its 42” upper cabinets. Since the ¼” Corian full back splashes did not fit this installation, the Corian was re-fabricated into ¾” thick 4” high back splashes with extra Corian used to line windowsills and construct a raised triangular Corian platform to fill an empty countertop corner.
Note: In this same building, this Green Demolitions “frequent shopper” customer has also installed a solar window greenhouse, shower and tub enclosure, bathroom double sink vanity, metal cabinets from a full kitchen with some hardwood doors for workbench surfaces in a shop area, and metal cabinets being installed for another workshop area.

Description of Kitchen: White
Kitchen with Galaxy Granite and Open Shelving
After moving into our new home and living with our tiny kitchen for 1 year, we decided to open up the wall to the dining room. Thinking we’d just “live with it for a while” we discovered the Green Demolitions website and began searching for a kitchen that would fit into our existing layout. I searched GD’s website EVERY DAY for six months and after measuring, re-measuring, and three trips from West Hartford to Norwalk -- we finally purchased our kitchen! My husband and I juggled the workload along with help from other DIYers found on craigslist. Living in a small home with no stove, no sink, and a fridge in the dining room for months was hectic, to say the least! To make way for our new cabinets, we closed a doorway and relocated and enlarged a window and somewhere in between allowed a new visitor into our home (black with flapping wings and sharp teeth – likes to sleep upside down) – but in the end we reassembled this beautiful kitchen in our house, with an extra cabinet to spare, which we turned into a breakfast station and home for our microwave, giving us even more counter space. Taking a cue from the kitchen’s previous owners who had faced the cararra marble island in beadboard, we decided to use it on the walls as well! Since the kitchen only came with lower cabinets we installed open shelving, which seems to give our still modest kitchen a larger feel. In the end, we gave an old kitchen a new life and our home an eye-catching and green family space. We even painted one wall in our kitchen green as an homage to GD and our commitment to green living. Thanks Green Demolitions, especially Deb, from the “granite slackers”!

Description of Kitchen: Stunning
Simplicity Kitchen in White Oak and Stainless
We first heard of Green Demolitions from a client in July 2007 and started watching the website daily. Our small kitchen, with five doorways, made it difficult to find anything that would fit. We saw the modern kitchen we purchased, but we didn’t like the cabinet finish. If it weren’t for the size, aggressive pricing and high value appliances, we wouldn’t have bought it. My husband refinished the cabinets to modernize them. This DIY project took 3 months to complete.

Description of Kitchen: Raised Panel
It all started with a broken dishwasher that got us to think about some possible changes to our 1954 kitchen … We decided to check out the new Norwalk location of Green Demo and found a beautiful cabinet that looked like it would fit perfectly in a spot of our kitchen that was never well-used. Once the single cabinet was in place, it highlighted the flaws of the rest of our “vintage” carpenter-built kitchen.
Back at Green Demo the next day, we found an entire kitchen that matched our new single Green Demo cabinet and, and miraculously, fit nearly perfectly with our existing kitchen layout. So we bought the rest of the cabinets (except for a matching island, which we would not be surprised to see in another Green Kitchen Olympics entry).
Our project was a hybrid of DIY/family and friends and a few professionals for the electrical and plumbing work. Add Stone Works for the granite and the result is a beautiful new kitchen that everyone is convinced was custom-designed!

I guess my entry would be for a Green Demolitions all-over house project. Over the past year, ever since we read about GD in This Old House Magazine, we've used GD to transform our whole house. After reading the article, I promptly made plans to visit all three GD stores in a one-day whirlwind tour. I was in search of appliances and a sink for my kitchen renovation, but came away with much, much more - to our delight.
Kitchen Renovation: all new appliances from GD; the awesome Viking Microwave makes the best hamburgers - it dictated the cabinet design for the appliance garage, because although it is functionally awesome, the microwave isn't exactly streamline-aesthetic!
Laundry Room: saw this adorable green "cabana kitchen" made by Woodmode, and did a retro-fit to make the laundry room of our dreams - totally functional and great looking. (This was my second trip to GD).
Fireplace: we always hated our "bathroom tile and crown-molding" contractor fireplace. While doing the "whirlwind tour", I happened upon the most beautiful fireplace mantel. Deb Barbieri and I checked it out and found the maker's label inside the mantel, made in NYC in 1916. The guys at GD lashed the mantel on the top of my SUV, as the interior was stuffed with appliances. We took it home, it fit beautifully and we had it dipped to remove the layers of white paint. Then we sanded it and finished it with tung oil and it is spectacular. We saved the label, too.
Christmas Tree: On my third trip to GD, I went to get an
icemaker and came home with two icemakers (one for us, one for
my parents) - and about 75 glass icicle ornaments. They adorn
our tree!
Rug: On my FOURTH trip to GD, I picked up a winekeeper and a huge oriental rug. We were replacing the floors in our kitchen/family room with hardwood and knew we would need a big rug. It must have been quite a magnificent rug in its heyday. It still has plenty of life left and looks like it was custom made for us. Because the price was right, I don't get all bent out of shape if the kids spill on it. (which, thankfully, they haven't).
I've told all my friends and probably check out the GD website 3 x per week.
